Mitzi Baum will retire from Stop Foodborne Illness (STOP) at the end of the current year. She joined STOP as the CEO in May 2019 following a successful 23-year career in industry.
During her tenure, STOP established interactions with major food companies and the FDA to advance food safety. She was involved in updating regulatory standards for Salmonella in poultry, preventing foodborne infections associated with produce and advocating for Cronobacter infection to be a reportable disease.
In her announcement, Baum noted, “It has been an honor and a privilege to lead Stop Foodborne Illness. I have accomplished the organizational goals that the Board and I defined when I joined.” She added, “It is time to identify a successor to be the next voice for safe food.|”
