Dr. Janet Fulton joined Hy-Line International 28 years ago to establish the molecular genetics laboratory. Since this time, Hy-Line has defined their genetics at the DNA level, initiated marker-assisted selection and developed SNPS for application of genomic selection in elite breeding lines.
Through her efforts and those of colleagues, Hy-Line is gaining four additional eggs, on a hen-housed basis each generation and has reduced feed intake by 5g per dozen eggs through production cycles extending beyond 90 weeks of age.
Dr. Fulton has contributed her knowledge and enthusiasm to the U.S. National Poultry Improvement Plan, the Poultry Breeders Roundtable, the Poultry Industry Coalition and the Poultry Science Foundation. She was the recipient of the Poultry Science Association Distinguished Poultry Industry Award in 2016 and was inducted as a Fellow into the Poultry Science Association recognizing her contributions to the field of poultry science.
She will be succeeded by Dr. Travis Williams as the Manager of the Hy-Line Molecular Genetics and Genomics Laboratory. Dr. Williams obtained his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University where he served as an Instructor in the Department of Poultry Science. His research expertise includes quantitative genetics, comparative genomics and bioinformatics.
