The U.K. Health Security Agency has identified at least 256 laboratory confirmed cases of E. coli resulting in 86 hospitalizations to date.  An epidemiologic investigation has incriminated lettuce in salads and sandwiches.  Approximately 60 products have been recalled.

A spokesperson for the  U.K. Food Standards Agency noted, “Although we are confident in the source of the outbreak being linked to a small number of salad leaves which we identified earlier in the outbreak, through extensive food-chain analysis continues to identify the root cause of the outbreak with the growers, suppliers and manufacturers so that actions can be taken to prevent a reoccurrence.”
