In October 2023, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ordered a recall of WanaBana apple cinnamon pouches. This action followed the disclosure of high levels of lead and chromium in the branded product distributed in Dollar stores and supermarkets. The FDA warning letter confirmed that Dollar Tree stores failed to comply with the recall and allowed pouches to remain on shelves for sale to December 2023. At least one case of lead toxicity has been documented as a result of consuming the recalled product.
In a statement, the company noted, “Dollar Tree is committed to selling quality food and products, maintaining a safe environment for associates and customers and complying with all laws and regulations.”
It is anticipated that Dollar Tree will face litigation as a result of documented negligence relating to the recall.
