Walmart has embarked on a two-year program of introducing digital shelf labels in all stores. A test carried out in Texas has demonstrated benefits from introducing the technology especially in superstores carrying more than 100,000 SKUs.
Digital shelf labels will allow instantaneous changes in price using apps. The shelf labels will also include low-stock indicators to expedite replenishment and to guide in-store pickers filling online orders.
Over the past five years, Walmart has applied various technologies to manage stock, enhance efficiency and contribute to customer convenience. The introduction of shelf labels is consistent with a program of moving the market and improving labor efficiency.
