Dr. Emmanuelle Soubeyran was elected Director General of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH). Currently, Dr. Soubeyran is the Deputy Director General for Food for the Republic of France and Head of the Nation’s Veterinary Services. Dr. Soubeyran replaces Dr. Monique Eloit in the position of Director General. Dr. Soubeyran has gained extensive experience with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza and was instrumental in the decision to adopt vaccination of ducks to avert successive seasonal outbreaks in the foie gras industry.
As an initiative for her tenure in office, Dr. Soubeyran will establish closer links with international health organizations including the WHO and the FAO following the “One Health” principle that links livestock and human diseases.
