According to a report in Activist Watch Weekly, edited by Will Coggin, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has absorbed the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association.
The veterinary profession is clearly divided with a portion of the membership committed to food production in the various segments including the specialty of poultry veterinary medicine. In contrast, a small but growing number of veterinarians in companion animal practice and allied fields are highly active in opposing intensive livestock production. Their rationale is based on moral and other considerations including promotion of a vegan lifestyle.
It is anticipated that HSUS will use veterinarians to lend some semblance of scientific creditability to claims and assertions relating to flock and herd welfare.
