Dow Chemical and Proctor & Gamble are evaluating a dissolution process to recycle polyethylene packaging. This technology involves dissolving plastic packaging in a solvent, followed by separation and remanufacturing. As distinct from advanced recycling, the polyethylene will not be degraded to produce a virgin product. According to experts the physical process has the potential to reuse material to reduce the quantity of plastic waste.

Proctor & Gamble has undertaken to recycle or reuse all plastic packaging by 2030.
