Authorities in the Russian Federation reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza, strain H5N1 to the World Organization of Animal Health on August 30^th.  The outbreak occurred in a complex in the Republic of Tatarstan in western Russia located on a plain lying between the Volga and Kama Rivers and presumably on a migratory flyway.

According to the report, all birds on the affected farm were depopulated.
