South Dakota intends to impose restrictions on foreign purchases of agricultural land. Legislation will be introduced to create a "Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States - South Dakota". This Board would be required to approve purchases of any tract of land including transfer, purchase, grant, inheritance that may involve a
foreign entity. Legislation placing leases of land extending beyond one year would also come under the review of the Board.
The South Dakota Investment Council has been ordered to review any state investments that may have connections to foreign entities including the Peoples Republic of China.
