Kale Salad Recalled in Canada Due to Listeria Contamination

An unspecified quantity of kale contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes has been recalled in Canada by the Federal Food Inspection Agency.  The product marketed under the Eat Smart brand was due to expire the after the recall.  The company owning the brand, Apio Inc. is located in Guadalupe, CA.

During the past year green produce has been identified as a vehicle of foodborne infection with Salmonella, Listeria and E.coli.

Again, it is reiterated that the only effective method of decontaminating green produce to eliminate bacterial foodborne pathogens is electron beam treatment.
