Amazon Unveils Compact Food Stores

Amazon Go™ food stores have shrunk, as evidenced by the unveiling of a 450-square foot super-cubical serving salads and snacks suitable for an office, lobby or hospital.  Customers scan their smartphones to enter. Cameras monitor their selection and are billed by Amazon after they leave.

In commenting on the concept Gianna Puerini, vice president of Amazon Go™ stated, “We wanted something from a design perspective that would fit nicely into open spaces.”  She added, “You can bring it in pieces and assemble it on site.”  The prototype store is located in the Macy’s building in Seattle and is currently open to Amazon employees and guests.  It is possible that the Company may also be eyeing airports although there may well be problems relating to existing concessions with leases restricting competition.
